Ways to Connect

A week ago, Yeni Gonzalez was in an immigration detention center in Arizona more than 2,000 miles from her children.

On Tuesday, the 29-year-old stood outside the social services agency in New York City where she had just seen her kids for the first time in 45 days, clutching a blue and white lollipop in her hand.

"I feel very happy because I just saw my children, and my daughter gave me that lollipop," Gonzalez said in Spanish.

Under the deal, migrants registered in other European Union countries will be held in transit centers as Germany negotiates their return. The country's rebellious interior minister had threatened to quit and pull his party from Angela Merkel's coalition government if the German chancellor did not take a harder line on asylum seekers.

Thank you to all of the participants and volunteers who supported the recently concluded Pioneer Century. As has often been stated, the Pioneer is and continues to be a prideful event for the Portland Wheelmen family. Individuals come together to fulfill a common goal of presenting one of the more enjoyable and satisfying event rides in the region. Our volunteers give of their time, expertise, and more than a wee bit of sweat equity. By all observations it was a safe day, a satisfying day. A more comprehensive post event report will appear in the upcoming Quick Releases, but for now, we step aside and yield the stage to all things STP. Once again, our sincerest thanks for supporting the Pioneer. Lastly, our event photographer, Rohith Gunawardena, along with “that Hammer guy,”cobbled together some images and tunes which shine a light upon this recurring 1st Saturday in June cycling event.

One of thelargestpain management groupsin the Southeast is closing multiple clinics amid worsening financial troubles and a federal criminal investigation that targeted its former chief executive.

This week, Tennessee-based Comprehensive Pain Specialists advised patients and employees about clinic closures, leaving patients scrambling to find new doctors willing to prescribe them opioids, according to a report on WSMV television.

Based in the Nashville area, CPS opened in 2005 and quickly grew into a powerhouse, which has treated as many as 48,000 pain patients a month, at more than 50 clinics in Tennessee and other states.

CPS did not respond to numerous requests for comment.

The doctor-owned company has endured a series of recent setbacks, including earlier clinic closures, pending lawsuits over alleged debts and the criminal case against former CEO John Davis.

In April, a federal grand jury in Tennessee indicted Davis on criminal kickback charges. He has pleaded not guilty. CPS also has faced nearly a dozen civil lawsuits from contractors alleging unpaid debts, including suits brought by two of its former doctors. A Justice Department official said the closure was not related to the criminal case against Davis.

The shutdown of the clinics comes amid growing backlash against the use of opioids for treating chronic pain. The opioid crisis has cost the U.S. economy more than $1 trillion since 2001, estimates Altarum, an economic research firm. Since 1999, at least 200,000 people have died nationwide from overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the company’s website, CPS now operates 40 clinics in eight states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee. Half are in Tennessee. The Tennessean Mens Silk Pocket Square Santa Fe by VIDA VIDA 09ES5syJD
